£40,000 raised across the UK in Spin for Smart Works cycle challenge image

During the week of International Women’s Day 2017 (6 March – 10 March) over 60 teams of 5 cyclists took to the road and the gym to cycle 500 miles in 5 days for the Spin for Smart Works challenge.

We are thrilled to announce that the spinners collectively cycled 27,836.81 miles and raised over £40,000 for Smart Works sites across the UK, which is an amazing result.  We are incredibly grateful for the support from all the organisations who put teams forward and for everyone who donated to the cause.  In particular, the support of Barclays was overwhelming – over 20 teams were involved in the challenge and raised  over £8,000.

500 miles is a challenging number but a significant one as it is the distance between all the Smart Works sites across the UK – London to Edinburgh, via Reading, Manchester and Birmingham.  The funds raised in Spin for Smart Works will support our current centres with their growth and help us set up other centres in other cities so our service is available to every unemployed woman across the UK.
