The women who come to Smart Works are referred from Job Centres, mental health charities, women’s refuges, homeless shelters, the prison service, care service and youth organisations.

“I would like to put on record my personal thanks for the absolutely outstanding service you continue to offer our customers – it has, and continues to, make a fundamental difference.” – Referral Partner

Each client receives a bespoke dressing consultation with two trained volunteers, to find a beautiful and high-quality interview outfit that will fill her with confidence. This is free of charge and the clothes are hers to keep.

“If I could have afforded to pick this outfit from the shops, I would have chosen the exact items. They fit perfectly and the beautiful touches, such as the bracelet and socks, are so lovely. I really feel so much more confident at tackling the two interviews tomorrow.” – Marie-Anne

This is followed by a one-to-one coaching session with an expert interview coach, where each client receives valuable interview preparation, unlocking her potential and enabling her to succeed at interview.

“I met the fairy godmother of coaches! We went through brilliant interview techniques and practice questions. It felt like a true privilege to be coached by an expert and it helped me reach new heights in confidence and self-esteem.” – Selina

We are proud that 69% of clients secure a job in a month. Once a woman gets the job, she is welcomed back for a Second Dressing and receives a capsule working wardrobe to last until her first pay cheque. In London, clients can join the Smart Works Network, which meets monthly for tailored sessions that set them up for professional success.

“I have successfully gained a role. It is thanks to you that I didn’t give up altogether. I had lost all hope when I was put forward to you. I now cannot wait for Monday morning and a new adventure.” – Janet

Our virtual service

As a result of the pandemic, we launched a virtual service where clients benefit from online interview coaching, a virtual dressing consultation and a bespoke parcel of workwear items sent in the post. This means we can help any woman, regardless of their physical location.

We also launched a brand new programme – Career Coaching – which helps unemployed women secure a job interview. In each session, trained coaches work with clients to identify tangible next steps to maximise their chances of securing an interview. This acts as a step before our core interview preparation service.
