Career development at Smart Works
We run a series of targeted schemes to help open up the charity sector to diverse and young talent.
Here are some of the programmes we run.
Working at Smart Works
Charlotte – Foundation and Community Fundraising Manager
Charlotte is our Foundation and Community Fundraising Manager. Charlotte is responsible for overseeing income generation from grants and trusts and runs our annual community fundraiser, Cycle for Smart Works. Before taking on her current role Charlotte successfully took part in the Smart Works Graduate Training Programme.
“Having started my career on the Smart Works Graduate Scheme in 2018 it’s amazing to have continued to develop and grow within the organisation. When I came to Smart Works, I was able to explore different areas within the charity and nurture my interests, developing the right skills for my role as Foundation and Community Fundraising Manager. From working in Service Delivery to now managing our Community Fundraising I have the knowledge and experience to relay how the funds our supporters are donating impact the women we serve directly.”
Isabel – Partnerships and Development Manager
Izzy is our Partnerships and Development Manager, she is responsible for looking after financial and retail donations from our supporters. Before taking on her role in March 2021 Izzy worked for a national charity and has found the move to a smaller organisation has opened up new opportunities she hadn’t previously experienced.
“Prior to becoming Partnership and Development Manager I worked within Partnerships for a larger national charity. Coming to Smart Works has been an exciting transition as I have gained new insight into how a smaller charity operates. A key difference is being able to work closely across all areas of the charity from Service Delivery to Communications and Partnerships while having insight into how each team plays a direct role in our mission to help more women back into employment. I’m so happy to be working in a charity that not only values and harnesses my potential, but whose employees are all driven by the same mission.”
Sandy – Graduate Trainee
Sandy joined Smart Works in September 2020 on our Graduate Trainee Programme. During the 18 month programme our graduates get to experience every aspect of what it takes to run a dynamic and entrepreneurial charity like Smart Works.
“The Smart Works Graduate Scheme has been the best way to start my career. From being a key member of the Service Delivery team, helping to support the running of the North and West London centres, to running several outreach projects across the UK – no day is the same. Within my first six months I was able to independently lead projects and supported in areas beyond Service Delivery. The scheme has given me an amazing set of skills and experience, but it is my confidence in myself and my abilities has greatly grown since I started the scheme.”
