Donate Clothes

We always welcome donations of high quality work-appropriate clothes in all sizes. For clothing donations, please contact us  or you can send them to us by post. We are based at 65-81 St. Petersgate, Stockport, SK1 1DS.

We value clothing donations that are interview-appropriate, in good condition and ready to wear. These donations directly help another woman to succeed at her job interview. You are welcome to donate single items but you can also arrange a suit drive.

Most of the clothes donated to us get put straight onto our rails to dress the women we see. However, we also hold pop-up fashion sales throughout the year to create much needed income out of any clothes that are not deemed as interview appropriate. Therefore, we also welcome any high quality items that could be sold at these events, including casual or party pieces. All profit made from the pop-up sales is put back into our services to ensure we can continue to help as many women as possible.

“Community is going through your closet and saying “This is the blazer I wore when I nailed my first job interview and I got my dream job. And I don’t need that anymore because I’m where I want to be. But if I’m able to share that blazer and be part of another woman’s success story, then that’s community” – The Duchess of Sussex, Smart Works Patron

We encourage you to be part of another woman’s future, by adding a “note of confidence” in  your donation and telling us the story of what these items of clothing meant to you.

We welcome the following donated items:

  • Business suits
  • Skirts and trousers
  • Dresses
  • Tops and blouses
  • Handbags
  • Shoes
  • Jackets
  • Coats
  • New tights
  • Unloved party wear / gifts

We currently need further donations of:

  • Size 16/18/20/22 trousers
  • Size 6/8/10/12 tops
  • Slim leg trousers
  • Shoes (all sizes)
  • Work appropriate handbags

Organising a clothing drive for Smart Works Greater Manchester

Many organisations run a clothing drive on behalf of Smart Works, which is an easy and fun way to secure a large number of clothing donations, and ensure that great quality clothing is put to the best possible use. We are also happy to come and speak at clothing drive events, to bring to life the impact that your support has on the women who come to Smart Works.

For more information on how to organise a clothing drive please download the Manchester Clothing Drive pack or contact the Smart Works Great Manchester team.

Organise a suit drive in four easy steps:

  • Agree a particular day or week to hold your clothing drive
  • Publicise the event via email and posters
  • Designate a room or space in the office where people can drop off their clothes, and organise a hanging rail and some boxes to store the clothes
  • After the clothing drive, package up the donations and deliver them to Smart Works.

Thank you for your support.
