International Women's Day 2025 | Join our campaign
This International Women’s Day, we’re asking you to Step Up for Smart Works.

For thousands of unemployed women across the UK, getting a job is a lifeline. It is a chance to escape economic hardship, gain financial stability and restore their sense of independence and self-worth.

The impact of the cost-of-living crisis and a challenging job market have increased the need for our service to unprecedented levels. This year alone we supported 10,000 unemployed women nationwide with job interview preparation, career coaching, and interview-appropriate clothing. The need for our service has never been more pronounced.

To raise vital funds for our service, we have launched our inaugural Step Up for Smart Works fundraiser, challenging our fantastic community to walk 10,000 steps every day this March.

We’re also asking our community to Step Up in their own way – donating clothes to our client wardrobe, volunteering their time to our cause, or donating funds to keep our service running.

Your support will allow us to keep delivering our transformative service to unemployed women in local communities from London to Glasgow.

Will you join us and Step Up for Smart Works?

This March we will reach a crucial milestone. We will have supported 10,000 women this year alone.

10,000 isn’t just a number. It’s 10,000 real women with real lives and real potential, unlocked by Smart Works. It’s 10,000 real women who have faced barriers in their job search, turned to Smart Works for support, and left our centres with their confidence restored and their heads held high.

We are inviting you to celebrate this milestone with us and help us be there for the next 10,000 women who need our service.

Join our Step Up walking challenge and walk 10,000 steps every day throughout the month of March, raising funds to keep our service running.

Donate to our BBC Radio 4 Appeal
We are thrilled to announce that Sara Davies MBE is presenting a BBC Radio 4 Appeal on our behalf. Sara is an award-winning entrepreneur and Dragons’ Den investor, and has been an Ambassador for Smart Works since 2021.

In the appeal, Sara will be sharing the story of 28 year old Bethany from Newcastle. Following a bout of ill health that caused her to quit her job, Bethany applied for over 200 jobs with no luck, which had a negative impact on her outlook and confidence. Our service helped change things around – now, she’s in her dream job.

Tune in to hear our appeal on BBC Radio 4 on:

Sunday 9th of March at 07:54 and 21:25
Thursday 13th March at 15:27
