Smart Works Birmingham coming Summer 2016

We are very excited to announce that Smart Works Birmingham will be opening in Summer 2016. Birmingham is a vibrant city with many great industries, but it also has high levels of female unemployment. We believe there is great potential to help women back into work by bringing the Smart Works dressing and interview preparation service to the area.

Smart Works Birmingham is chaired by Rebecca Debenham, Chief Executive of Northfield Community Partnership, a charity which has been working to address the huge gap in the job skills market since the collapse of the MG Rover Group in 2007.

The Chief Executive of Smart Works, Kate Stephens, said:

“We are thrilled to be bringing the Smart Works service to Birmingham. It has long been one of our target areas where we believe our service can have most impact and help us achieve our vision of helping more women get the job and move on with their lives. Working with the fantastic team at Northfield Community Partnership means we will be able to reach our potential clients quickly, and give them the clothes and the confidence they need to succeed at job interview.”

Rebecca Debenham, Chief Executive of Northfield Community Partnership and Chair of Smart Works Birmingham said:

“Bringing the Smart Works service to Birmingham will provide a valuable and unique service for women in our city. There are many support services available, but nowhere can they get the focused two hour service to provide them with the right outfit for their job interview, combined with coaching to give them the confidence to succeed. I was so pleased to find the Smart Works service to plug this gap and am looking forward to bringing it to life in our area.”

We will be looking for dressing volunteers to style our clients for their interview, interview coaches to prepare our clients, clothes to fill our stock room and any other donation to help bring the amazing Smart Works service to Birmingham.

Smart Works Birmingham will be the fourth Smart Works centre to open outside of London, following Smart Works Edinburgh in 2014, and Smart Works Manchester and Smart Works Reading in 2015. Each of our Smart Works centres dresses and trains unemployed women for their job interview, and each centre delivers a successful and flourishing service.

In every location we are particularly proud of the fact that over one in two of the women we are able to contact after their visit go on to get the job.
