Cycle for Smart Works

Cycle for Smart Works is our annual sponsored cycling challenge, where teams of five individuals cycle a collective 500 miles over one week and fundraise for their efforts.

People can take part on any bike they like – inside on a stationary bike, as part of a gym class  or outside on a road bike, and teams don’t have to be physically together to join in the fun.

In 2021, over 240 teams took part and raised over £230,000 to help unemployed women in need.

Our next Cycle for Smart Works challenge will take place in March 2022.

We are beyond thrilled with how our fundraisers and sponsors have rallied behind Cycle for Smart Works 2021 to make it our biggest challenge fundraiser ever. ⠀

163 participants took to static and road bikes to pedal for a purpose in the week running up to International Women’s Day on 8th March. Each team of 5 cycled 500 miles, or the total distance between Smart Works’ regional centres. ⠀

We smashed our fundraising target, and our total sponsorship currently stands at an incredible £21,991, with an amazing £4,290 in gift aid. 🎆⠀

Smart Works Reading supports women from the Thames Valley, and cyclists signed up from all over the South East and beyond, with colleagues from Poland, Germany and France joining Bracknell software company Blue Yonder’s teams. ⠀

Sponsorship money came in from as far afield as America and New Zealand, and 13 companies and one school joined the hundreds of friends and relatives who teamed up ‘virtually’ to cycle from home or out in all weathers, while keeping to social distancing rules.⠀

These vital funds will be used to take our service into the next financial year and to help support even more women in need into work. With help from our dedicated and hard-working volunteers, we are aiming to reopen our centre soon, and we can’t wait to see our clients in person again while still providing a remote service.⠀

It is difficult to express just how grateful we are to everyone who has supported us during Cycle for Smart Works and throughout this Covid-19 crisis. Thanks to you, we are strong, ready, and proud to support more Thames Valley women to rebuild their confidence and transform their lives. ⠀

With love and gratitude, ⠀
Smart Works Reading⠀

Huge thank you to everyone who took part in #CycleforSmartWorks and to those who sponsored teams. 💙

We've raised £5,500 so far and there is still time to donate. Please visit the link in our bio if you'd like to support us. All money raised will help us continue supporting unemployed women from across Birmingham and the West Midlands back into work through our coaching and dressing services.

Thank you 💙
